Doll Barn {Building}

I'm SO excited to show you today's project!  One of my favorite things to do as a little girl was visit my Grandma's house.  My Grandma is super creative and would spend hours with me making doll houses out of cardboard, fabric and her glue gun.  So making a doll barn made me totally nostalgic and excited to spend time with my little girl playing with dolls.  My daughter is four and loves to play with dolls but she really loves playing with the doll horses so I thought it would be fun to build her a house that her horses and dolls could live together.

Cubby Base {Building}

Happy December!!  Have you done your holiday decorating?  Do you want to hear a shameful true blogger confession?  I haven't done any decorating.  In fact my porch still has Thanksgiving pumpkins on display! My husband and I have been too busy working on some fun gift projects! Starting with this new plan today.  A little cubby base from Ana White.  Perfect height for my daughter to play with her present.  Which is also another plan that I will show you on Thursday.
Any ideas of what it could be?

First Aid Cabinet {Organizing}

Hi friends!  Today I have a simple organizing project.  Our guest half bath is right off the garage so we store the first aid supplies in there.  When we moved in I just shoved all the stuff in the cupboard and then let the kids dig through it when they needed a bandaid.  It was a huge mess.

DIY Magnetic Chalkboard Calendar {Building}

This is the first year I've had all my kids in school!  My youngest just started preschool a few days a week so I'm determined to become a more organized person.  Starting with our family schedules and calendar.  I've always struggled with the keeping a family calendar.  When I have a paper calendar I am afraid to write stuff down because I don't want the paper messed up if plans change.  This is especially true for things like workouts or menus that are constantly skipped...or changed before dinner.  I tried a dry erase calendar but many times the carefully written schedule "accidentally" gets erased by a preschooler so they can do more important things like color.

So I decided to build my own calendar that met all my picky expectations.  I am loving it because it's a chalkboard and I love chalkboards. Plus the calendar is magnetic and the spaces are a big 4"x4" giving lots of room to fit in all the activities of a busy family.

Hanging Decorations above Beds

I found some soccer art for my tween son's bedroom.   I bought it on Etsy and it has a rustic look but is printed on metallic paper.  He is obsessed with skateboarding and soccer so I thought it would be perfect.  When I hung it up I realized that now I have something hanging above all the beds in the house.

Halloween Candle Tray {Scrapbooking Attitude}

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  I think because it's my Grandma's favorite holiday and she goes ALL out.  When I was growing up she would have the most elaborate Halloween parties every year with amazing decorations.  At the end of the party my Great Grandma would hand out GIANT popcorn balls that she handmade.  Delicious.  So I'm totally blaming my Grandma that I could only wait until the beginning of September to start pulling out the Halloween decor!  This year I have a new addition to my decor.  A Halloween candle tray made with a new product called Scrapbooking Attitude.

Ana White: The Handbuilt Home

I'm so excited today! For two reasons.

One: My boys all went back to school today! Love having them home all summer but sheesh they were so bored the last week or two. I think we were all sick of summer (or maybe just me the Mom? LOL).

Two: My friend Ana White wrote a totally awesome book called The Handbuilt Home! The book has 34 furniture plans.

DIY Queen Headboard {Building}

I've been showing you all the projects in my older brother's house but I did some fun projects in my little brother's house too!  Did you know I have FIVE brothers and SIX brother in laws? Please pause for a moment and send me cyber sympathy for the amount of teasing I've had to endure.

The biggest project at my little brother's house was his master bedroom.  My brother and his wife just graduated college and are going to be school teachers.  Bless them!  They wanted a grown up bedroom so we set to work.  I started by building the headboard using the Reclaimed Wood Headboard plans from Ana White.  And when I say me I actually mean my husband and his brother in law did most of the building.  I am still a VERY slow builder and they have years of experience building houses and all sorts of other things.  In a morning we built the board and batten wall, the mantel headboard, 2 laundry dressers and this headboard.

Laundry room makeover with Ana White Brook laundry dressers

One of the rooms that really needed help was my brother's laundry room.  With five kids they have A LOT of laundry but the room didn't have a spot for clean laundry and they weren't using the space they had as well as they could.  BEFORE-This brings a whole new meaning to airing your families dirty laundry.

The first thing we did was build two of the Ana White Brook Laundry dressers.  The same ones I have in my laundry room.  Now they have a clean basket for each person in their family and one for towels/sheets.  The dirty laundry will go in the hamper that has 3 separate sections for sorting next to the laundry dressers.

Shared Boy Nursery

I spent the last few weeks visiting my family and helping my brother and his wife spruce up their house a little.   I showed up when my sister in law was 38 weeks pregnant with their 5th child and she was really sweet and patient as I ripped her entire house apart!

My brother and I worked super hard to get everything done before the new baby came and we were hanging the last few things up hours before the little guy got home from the hospital!  One of the first rooms we worked on was the nursery.

The starting point for the nursery was this quilt that I bought on Etsy from The Tabbie and The Pea .  The fabric is Michael Miller's backyard baby .

How to Paint Wicker {Porch Makeover}

I've been wanting a wicker chair for my porch and love the texture wicker adds to a space but don't love the price tag on a new wicker chair.  Strolling through my local thrift store I found this wicker chair for $15!  It was dirty and the wicker on the legs was coming unraveled but I knew I could save it!

I started by giving it a good scrub down on a nice sunny day.  A vacuum and an old toothbrush can help get into the crevices.  Then I let the sun dry it out completely.

Fabric Wall Map

I'm SO excited to share a fun project that I did with some of my blogging BFFs.  One of the best things about blogging is connecting with people who think the same way you do and always have a fun creative project on the brain!  This past month Jenna from SAS Interiors, Kim from Sand and Sisal, Monica and Jess from East Coast Creative  and Allison from House of Hepworths and I have been chatting it up on the phone, sending emails and sharing SO many great ideas.

We decided it would be fun to have a little challenge and see what each of us could come up with from the same list of DIY ingredients.  Beckie from Infarrantly Creative compiled a list of stuff that we had to incorporate into our projects.  Ready to see what I did?

Hello Sign for Front Porch {Building Tutorial}

I'm so excited to show you all the sign I built for my front porch!  When I showed you the easy cedar planters I built I told you about how my porch has a window on one side of the door and then just a big empty spot on the other side.  I got a lot of great ideas from all of you and in the end decided to build a sign because it was a quick and cheap fix.  Plus when we move next year I can take it with me.  I'm going to show you how to build one too!  You could put whatever letters or sayings you want on it but I chose "Hello".  Because welcome was too long and "Go Away" seemed rude.
