Shared Boy Nursery

I spent the last few weeks visiting my family and helping my brother and his wife spruce up their house a little.   I showed up when my sister in law was 38 weeks pregnant with their 5th child and she was really sweet and patient as I ripped her entire house apart!

My brother and I worked super hard to get everything done before the new baby came and we were hanging the last few things up hours before the little guy got home from the hospital!  One of the first rooms we worked on was the nursery.

The starting point for the nursery was this quilt that I bought on Etsy from The Tabbie and The Pea .  The fabric is Michael Miller's backyard baby .

Dinosaur Boy Bedroom {Curtains and Desk}

I've been doing my 40 bags in 40 days inspired by Sarah at Clover Lane.  Seriously am SO happy to be getting rid of stuff.  Somedays I feel like my job is to care of my families stuff and we just have way too much of it.  I would rather be spending my time doing fun stuff instead of taking care of stuff!  Going through the closets and bedrooms started a whole room rearranging thing.

Two of the boys traded bedrooms and we sold the smallest boy's bunkbeds.  After 12 years my house is bunkbed free!  Hip Hip Hooray!  I'm getting too old to climb a ladder to change sheets. New room, new theme I say.  Mostly I say I'm SO sick of Star Wars.  The boys have had that bedroom theme for years and I'm just tired of it.  So we are going dinosaur.  Goodbye navy.

Hello grey and white dinosaurs!  I made these curtains the same way I did the drop cloth drapes but you could do a no sew method like the houndstooth curtains too.

Skateboard shelves {how-to}

My 10 year old is totally obsessed with skateboards and has requested a whole skateboard themed bedroom.  But not a perfect one!  He told me hates how I paint everything until it's perfect.  Uh okay? So there will be no painting of all his authentically thrashed up stuff!

Skateboard shelves seemed like a good place to start.  Especially since we already had a few retired skateboards in the garage.

The Star wars desk

The boys and I have been working on their rooms together.  My 5 year old wanted a Star Wars room.  Which worked out great because we already had the duvets that were purchased from PBkids a few years ago.   I think all little boys go through a Star Wars phase.

My Dad is a college professor and one of his big things when we were kids is that we all had a desk to study at.  I still remember going out with him and buying my first desk!  I don't know that it helped my study skills any but I do still like shopping.  I liked the idea and have been on the lookout the last few months to find all the boys their own desks.

You are my sunshine art...

 I've been loving all the subway art I've seen lately and I had an extra canvas laying around.  You know you have some sort of crafting "issue" if you have extra canvases just laying around!  I thought I'd make some fun art for the boys bedroom.  I got the big vinyl letters at Office Max in their sign section. A pack of a bunch of different 4 inch vinyl letters was about $5.  The small letters I dug out of my scrapbooking stash.  I drew a few straight lights with the pencil to make sure I put the letters on straight and then just stuck them on there!  Once it looked how I wanted I just painted over the whole thing letters and all with a paint roller and a sample of Behr's cheerful hue.

After it dried I peeled the letters off and had this!  Cute!

It looks adorable in the boys room and was $8, $5 for the letter, $3 for the paint!  Plus I still have leftover paint and letters for future projects.

Painting laminate furniture...

I think everyone that got married in the 90's has one of these light pine laminate TV cabinets.  Ours spent 6 years in storage and then didn't match any of our other furniture or fit the newer flat TV that we have now.  So I repurposed it and put it in the boys room.  To hold legos and the french horn.  If you have a giant french horn then the space you put the TV is the PERFECT spot for it!  Who knew?
