Dinosaur Boy Bedroom {Curtains and Desk}

Thursday / 7 comments
I've been doing my 40 bags in 40 days inspired by Sarah at Clover Lane.  Seriously am SO happy to be getting rid of stuff.  Somedays I feel like my job is to care of my families stuff and we just have way too much of it.  I would rather be spending my time doing fun stuff instead of taking care of stuff!  Going through the closets and bedrooms started a whole room rearranging thing.

Two of the boys traded bedrooms and we sold the smallest boy's bunkbeds.  After 12 years my house is bunkbed free!  Hip Hip Hooray!  I'm getting too old to climb a ladder to change sheets. New room, new theme I say.  Mostly I say I'm SO sick of Star Wars.  The boys have had that bedroom theme for years and I'm just tired of it.  So we are going dinosaur.  Goodbye navy.

Hello grey and white dinosaurs!  I made these curtains the same way I did the drop cloth drapes but you could do a no sew method like the houndstooth curtains too.

The desk I primed with Zinsser 123 primer and then painted two coats of Behr’s Teal Zeal in Satin.  I still had lots leftover from the laundry basket dressers.

Love the addition of the white and grey to his room.  The blinds are wood as well as all the molding so the room needed some lighter colors.

The hardware is the same from when I refinished his desk last year.  It's from Home Depot.

The fabric I bought from fabric.com and is Premier Prints Rex Twill.

Oh and be sure to prewash your curtain fabric.  I kind of figured that as long as I didn't dry it then it wouldn't shrink but how wrong I was!  I had to wash one of the playroom panels (thanks to the 3 year old and the honey incident) and it totally shrunk.  I washed it on cold and hung it up immediately to air dry.  Sad.  So be looking for a playroom curtain makeover someday in the future!

  1. The playroom curtains are really cute. Couldn't you move the rod down and wash the other curtain? Love the new curtains and teal desk!

  5. I love your blog and am so happy to have found it! I feel your grief on the curtains as the same thing has happened to me, but don't despair! Not all is lost. I just trimmed the lower quarter of my fabric and added a solid panel to the bottom that allowed the curtains to return to their normal length. Now I have a few short pieces for future use that will come in handy with another project! Best of luck! :)

  6. I was wondering where you purchased the desk. i love love love it and this is exactly what I am looking for to put in my daughter's room.
